Dennis Willms Sign (Years attended 1964 – 1969)

Dennis’s graduation in 1969 has been followed by a distinguished academic and humanitarian life.  His desire to help his fellow man has been a mainstay in this former Rebel’s remarkable career.

After graduating fro Eastwood in 1969, Dennis went on to earn a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Waterloo in 1973.  He received an M.A. in 1975 from McMaster University in the Faculty of Health Sciences and in the Department of Anthropology.  In recognition of his outstanding achievements, Dennis was named a Career Scientist by the Ontario Ministry of Health.  Dennis has authored a number of books and has been a contributing member to a wide range of professional works.

With deep concern for a wide range of health-related issues in Canada and Africa, Dennis has received support for his work from many major foundations and granting bodies.  Having worked in Africa for over 20 years, Dennis is involved with major programs in Malawi and Uganda to HIV and AIDS interventions.

Dennis is the Founding Director and CEO of the Salama SHIELD Foundation, a not-for-profit organization registered in Canada, Malawi, and Uganda.  Dennis is also the Associate Director for the African Initiative, a program at the Centre for International Governance and Innovation (GIGI), a think-tank based in Waterloo with a field research and education centre in Uganda.

Dennis’ continuing humanitarian efforts have improved the lives of countless people throughout the world. He is truly an inspiration for all Rebels.
