This week, we are recognizing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/employment-social-development\/campaigns\/national-accessability-week.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National AccessAbility Week (NAAW)<\/a> in Canada. The 2023 theme for NAAW is \u201cDisability Inclusion: From Possibilities to Practice\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>As per the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/laws\/statute\/90h19#BK12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ontario Human Rights Code<\/a>, \u201cDisability\u201d covers a broad range and degree of conditions, some visible and some not visible. A disability may have been present from birth, caused by an accident, or developed over time.<\/p>\n<p>No person should experience discrimination or harassment because of their physical disabilities, mental and learning disabilities, neurodiversity, hearing or vision abilities, epilepsy, mental health, addictions, environmental sensitivities, and other disabilities.<\/p>\n<h2>Get Involved during #NAAW2023<\/h2>\n<h3>Life Made Accessible Series<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kitchener.ca\/en\/recreation-and-sports\/life-made-accessible.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Life Made Accessible<\/a> is a virtual series about accessibility, hosted during National AccessAbility Week (NAAW). To learn about how to approach accessibility from an inclusive perspective, check out webinars that are being offered for free until June 1, 2023.<\/p>\n<h3>The Disabilities and Human Rights (DHR) Group Podcast Series<\/h3>\n<p>The DHR group was formed in 2008 to give voice to the lived experiences of disabled people where it might not be heard. Listen to members of the Disabilities and Human Rights Group speak about their experiences with accessibility at <a href=\"https:\/\/anchor.fm\/sdcwr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/anchor.fm\/sdcwr<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>The Black Accessibility Knowledge (BLAcK) Hub<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/asecommunityfoundation.com\/accessibility-hub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The BLAcK Hub<\/a> offers culturally-relevant and Black-focused, confidential, fully accessible, and free resources for Black people with disabilities. The BLAcK Hub has three searchable sections:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Service directory<\/li>\n<li>Disability resources<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge catalogue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Participate in Red Shirt Day on May 31<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.easterseals.org\/red-shirt-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Easter Seals Ontario<\/a> encourages everyone to wear a red shirt on Wednesday, May 31 to recognize its \u201cRed Shirt Day of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion\u201d. This day raises awareness for accessibility and disability inclusion, and asks participants to make a pledge to help remove physical, attitudinal, and systemic barriers in their schools, workplaces and communities.<\/p>\n<h2>Join the Conversation on Social Media<\/h2>\n<p>Share your thoughts and ideas about accessibility on social media using #NAAW2023 to join the conversation.
