Every year more than a billion people recognize Earth Day around the world. It is a day of action to change human behaviour and create global, national, and local policy changes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The environmental stewardship we are challenged to uphold every Earth Day reflects long-held wisdom taught to us by First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples who have always been stewards of the land and water and who have always recognized a deep and reciprocal relationship with the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>WRDSB has its First Electric Vehicle (EV)<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are excited to share that Facility Services has added the first electric vehicle (EV) to its fleet. This EV has been assigned as a dedicated service vehicle for Barry Grant, one of WRDSB&#8217;s Building Automation Technicians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-253624\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wrdsb.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0256-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"563\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This new addition serves as a trial vehicle to see how it will perform as a service vehicle. If this EV proves to be reliable, the WRDSB hopes to expand our EV fleet and purchase more in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Purchasing this vehicle is one step forward in our commitment to sustainability and marks a significant milestone in our efforts towards a greener, cleaner future.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Get Involved<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year we challenge all students and staff to participate in Earth Day and share their actions. This day is a great time to spark further discussion and interest in planet earth and sustainability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many ways you can recognize Earth Day, such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Walk or wheel to and from school<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Waste pick-up around your home or neighbourhood grounds<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sort recycling<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conduct a waste audit<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify various species of plants and animals around your home or neighbourhood<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inaturalist.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">iNaturalist App<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is good for tracking local species<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Calculate your Greenhouse Gas footprint using the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/schools.projectneutral.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Project Neutral calculator<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Learn more from and through Indigenous ways of knowing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shut off or unplug unused electric equipment<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Put your personal devices away and enjoy nature<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participate in an<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kahoot.com\/blog\/2021\/04\/21\/celebrate-earth-day-kahoot-academy\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earth Day Kahoot Quiz<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to test your eco-awareness<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Share Your Earth Day Activities with Us<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We want to hear from you!
