It\u2019s a chance to reflect on and celebrate the contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ community to our community and the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Pride Month<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 2016, WRDSB has proudly raised the Pride flag at every building across our school board as a symbol of recognition and support to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, while also marking the beginning of Pride month. This longstanding tradition reflects our deep commitment to equity and inclusion. We know that students who feel seen, supported, and respected are more likely to thrive academically and personally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Throughout history, 2SLGBTQIA+ community leaders have laid the foundation for current and future generations to bravely walk in their identities and affirm their rights. We are committed to maintaining spaces for all to feel a sense of belonging and to see themselves represented and reflected in our schools, workplaces and in the curriculum, in alignment with the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ontario Human Rights Code<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Community Events<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Pride in the Park: Summerfest 2026<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pride in the Park, also known as Summerfest, has been a long-standing tri-Pride tradition, marked on the first Saturday of June. Designed in 2018 by Non-binary American Artist Daniel Quasar, the Progress Pride Flag includes the addition of a five-coloured chevron to emphasize inclusion and ongoing advocacy. The Progress Pride Flag with the six-coloured stripes is grounded in the liberatory meaning and activism of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gilbertbaker.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gilbert Baker Flag<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Black and Brown stripes represent marginalized 2SLGBTQIA+ communities of colour. The pink, light blue and white are from the transgender flag. It now includes a visible reminder of those communities disproportionately impacted by:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Homophobia<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transphobia<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Queerphobia\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Racism<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Progress Pride Flag is a symbol of our commitment to ensure every student sees themselves reflected in their learning environment, and those who teach them, so that they can reach their full potential.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>June is Pride Month.
