In fact, they are re-told so often that almost everyone knows them!<\/p>\n<p>There are different kinds of traditional stories, including legends, myths, fables, and fairy tales.<\/p>\n<p>A traditional story is one that might try to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teach a lesson<\/li>\n<li>Explain why the world is the way it is<\/li>\n<li>Explain something from nature<\/li>\n<li>Explain a part of history<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>People from different parts of the world have traditional stories all their own.<\/p>\n<p>Today we will read a traditional story from <a href=\"https:\/\/oneida.on.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Oneida Nation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Read the story <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1llwOAX2JlK3MBpwgn-burhoftfRsr5N9Gu63HEp9qT0\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Legend of the Three Sisters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a video retelling of this story you can watch.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Three Sisters Legend\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Fx9CDVkN9xU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This story is told to explain the best way to plant crops. What clues in the story and the article helped you decide?<\/p>\n<p>Share your thinking with a family member.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Opportunities:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Traditional stories were often told by storytellers. Re-read or watch the video of the story. Then practice retelling the story to yourself.
