Your goal is to jot down as many different ideas as you can.

Pourquoi stories are stories told to entertain and to explain part of the natural world. Try writing your own pourquoi tale about an animal you choose. You could write a story that explains why the animal looks the way it does, or why it acts a certain way.

Looking for ideas? Try watching some of these Amazing Animal videos for interesting facts about animals.

Jot down three or four animals and their most interesting characteristics. Your pourquoi story might explain one of these!

For example:

Elephant – a long trunk for a nose, they make trumpeting sounds

Cobra – cobras make a ‘hood’ when angry

Racoon – have a ‘mask’ on their face, have rings on their tails, wash their food

Record your ideas on paper, or on your computer. We will use your ideas to write a pourquoi story tomorrow!

Other Opportunities:

You can also learn more about animals on the CBC Kids – Animals website.

Today, you will generate ideas for writing your own pourquoi story.
