{"id":9355,"date":"2026-04-30T15:01:54","date_gmt":"2026-04-30T19:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/schools.wrdsb.ca\/continuing-education\/2026\/04\/30\/apply-to-join-the-parent-involvement-committee-pic\/"},"modified":"2026-04-30T15:01:54","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T19:01:54","slug":"apply-to-join-the-parent-involvement-committee-pic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/schools.wrdsb.ca\/continuing-education\/2026\/04\/30\/apply-to-join-the-parent-involvement-committee-pic\/","title":{"rendered":"Apply to Join the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) <strong>Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) is looking for new members for the 2026-2027 school year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Parents and caregivers of students currently enrolled in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrdsb.ca\/our-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">any WRDSB school<\/a> are invited to apply.<\/p>\n<h2>Being a Member of the Parent Involvement Committee<\/h2>\n<p>As a member of PIC, you have an opportunity to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support strengthening parent and caregiver partnership in education<\/li>\n<li>Be part of a committee dedicated to helping each WRDSB student achieve their full potential<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>PIC collaborates with WRDSB staff to support, encourage and enhance parent and caregiver engagement in children\u2019s education, in order to improve student achievement and well-being.<\/p>\n<p>PIC promotes and supports the WRDSB commitments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Service<\/strong> by embracing an attitude of care and support.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Integrity<\/strong> by matching our actions to our words.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Respect<\/strong> by honouring all stakeholders.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Innovation<\/strong> in a culture where new ideas are welcomed and considered.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Collaboration<\/strong> through reaching out and listening to our stakeholders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interested parents and caregivers can find more information about PIC at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wrdsb.ca\/pic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.wrdsb.ca\/pic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/wBAVF46smZq7dbk36\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apply today<\/a>. The deadline is May 22, 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>PIC Meetings for 2026-2027<\/h2>\n<p>The committee meets a minimum of four times a year and consists of parent volunteers and school board staff representatives. These meetings run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/eqVu9vJQzw5AzuuE8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WRDSB Education Centre<\/a> in person or virtually. Attending four out of five meetings is mandatory for all members.<\/p>\n<p>Meeting dates for the 2026-2027 school year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tuesday, September 29, 2026<\/li>\n<li>Tuesday, November 24, 2026<\/li>\n<li>Tuesday, January 26, 2027<\/li>\n<li>Tuesday, March 30, 2027<\/li>\n<li>Tuesday, May 25, 2027<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Role of PIC<\/h2>\n<p>The role of the committee is to advise school board staff, support parent and family engagement and share concerns and issues that arise with staff. Members also organize activities to help families support their child\u2019s learning at home and school. Members are encouraged to participate in subcommittees that need your help, involvement and support:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Governance<\/strong> \u2013 reviewing our PIC bylaws and ensuring, compliance\/relevance<\/li>\n<li><strong>Membership<\/strong> \u2013 running the membership process and mentoring new members<\/li>\n<li><strong>Communications<\/strong> \u2013 managing communications for PIC social media<\/li>\n<li><strong>PRO Grant<\/strong> \u2013 reviewing and supporting annual PRO-Grant applications<\/li>\n<li><strong>Safe, Caring, and Inclusive Schools (SCIS)<\/strong> \u2013 supporting schools in creating positive school climates<\/li>\n<li><strong>Environmental Health, Sustainability and Climate Change<\/strong> \u2013 aiming to amplify the WRDSB&#8217;s current environmental initiatives<\/li>\n<li><strong>Parent Information Night<\/strong> \u2013 planning and hosting events to inform and engage families about PIC and school engagement opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additional sub-committee meetings will be planned and scheduled throughout the year, based on committee requirements and member availability. Each PIC member is required to sit on at least one subcommittee.<\/p>\n<h2>PIC and the Waterloo Region Assembly of Public-School Councils (WRAPSC)<\/h2>\n<p>PIC has a supportive relationship with the Waterloo Region Assembly of Public School Councils (WRAPSC), but is a separate group.
