You can send printed permission forms home, use school day and\/or use a google form to collect parent permissions, per your school\u2019s direction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><b> Transportation Procedures<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">School staff are responsible for booking buses.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is no cost to schools for OEE Centre visits.\u00a0 Busing costs for WRDSB Outdoor Education programs are covered by Learning Support Services.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Teachers are required to complete the <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/staff.wrdsb.ca\/policyprocedure\/?page_id=2918\"><b>Off Campus Category 1 form <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(IS-11-FA) <\/span><\/a><b>with Principal permission, including the bus confirmation number, and submit to<\/b> <a href=\"mailto:finance-off-campus@wrdsb.ca\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">finance-off-campus@wrdsb.ca<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. School staff are responsible for booking their own buses and recording the appropriate information on the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Off-Campus Excursion Category I<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> form (IS-11-FA).\u00a0 On the budget code line of the off campus form school staff should indicate <\/span><b>\u201cPaid for by LSS\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is advisable to book school buses as early as possible given that bus availability can be limited.\u00a0 The phone numbers for bus companies operating in Waterloo Region are listed below.\u00a0 More information can be found at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stswr.ca\/operators\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/www.stswr.ca\/operators\/<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elliott Coach Lines (Breslau Division) 519-648-9548<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Voyago Transportation Services 519-593-1008<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sharp Bus Lines 519-896-2822<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Trip Times:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Full day trips typically fall between 9:30AM and 1:30PM but these times will vary depending on school start and stop times, bell times, teacher availability, bus availability and so on.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maple Syrup programs are half day activities but they overlap in the middle of the day, suggested times are:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AM:9:30 depart school, 12:00 depart nature centre,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PM: 11:00 depart school, 1:30 depart nature centre.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><b> Location<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Please visit our &#8216;About Us&#8217; page for more information about each site and their ammenities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><b> Volunteers<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may bring as many parent volunteers as you wish (on the bus).\u00a0 Extra adults can help out in many ways.\u00a0 Please give volunteers as much information about the trip as possible, and outline specific responsibilities you may have for them. The WRDSB guidelines for field trips require a minimum supervisor ratio of:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1:8 for primary<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1:10 for junior<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1:15 for intermediate\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1:20 for senior<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The expectations for the use of volunteers are outlined in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/staff.wrdsb.ca\/policyprocedure\/?page_id=7087\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AP 1415<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Principals shall ensure that there is sufficient supervision and all volunteers are screened, as appropriate (\u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/staff.wrdsb.ca\/policyprocedure\/files\/2020\/02\/Appendix-A-Volunteer-Application.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Volunteer Interview Form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Principals shall request appropriate references and ensure verification (\u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/staff.wrdsb.ca\/policyprocedure\/files\/2020\/02\/Appendix-B-Reference-Check.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Volunteer Reference Check<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Volunteers who are in direct contact with students in a setting that is supervised by a staff member are not required to submit a police record check.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><b> Preparing for the Excursion<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Nutrition Break<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please instruct students to bring their reusable water bottle and lunch. For Elementary classes, time will be allotted for nutrition break at the Outdoor Education Centre. Please encourage students to keep their waste to a minimum.\u00a0 There are waste facilities at our centres but we recommend practising a boomerang lunch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Is there a cost for the program?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No. Costs for the program and busing will be covered centrally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Is this program led by the WRDSB staff?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, a WRDSB Outdoor and Environmental Education Specialist will be leading this program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Are there washrooms?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are washrooms at all of our sites.\u00a0 Students should be encouraged to use the washroom before getting on the bus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Setting the stage for a positive experience<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student safety is a priority.\u00a0 Classroom norms that exist in the school are also in effect during outdoor learning opportunities.\u00a0 A positive way to begin a great learning experience is to review class norms, acceptable student choices and respectful behaviour agreements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Materials and Equipment<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any program equipment required for the activity will be provided by the centre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Name Tags<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teachers are encouraged to ensure that students wear name tags.\u00a0 This will help facilitators and volunteers engage with students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>What should students wear?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also teachers and volunteers!!<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) must be dressed appropriately for the weather. Please ensure that this is communicated to families prior to the visit.\u00a0 <\/span><b>PLEASE ensure that the students are properly dressed prior to loading on the bus.\u00a0 This might include warmer clothing in layers, warm hat, mitts\/gloves, rain wear, rain or winter boots\u2026 or some combination of all of those.\u00a0 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Long pants and socks\/closed toed shoes are recommended for added protection from ticks during warmer weather (see below). Appropriate footwear for walking distances on uneven terrain is recommended to reduce the likelihood of slipping.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Ticks and Lyme Disease<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ticks are present in Waterloo Region and have been identified at some of our nature centre locations.\u00a0 Only Black-legged Ticks transmit Lyme disease.\u00a0 Waterloo Region is a low risk area for Lyme Disease. If students or parents are concerned, please advise them to wear light, long-sleeved shirts and pants that can be tucked into socks or boots.\u00a0 For more information please check the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regionofwaterloo.ca\/en\/health-and-wellness\/insect-and-animal-diseases.aspx#Areas-of-risk\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Waterloo Region Public Health Website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><b> Cancellation Due to Bad Weather<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trips are cancelled if schools are closed and\/or buses are not running.\u00a0 In cases of extreme weather (heavy rain, extreme cold, high winds) we will communicate possible cancelation and\/or rescheduling opportunities to you and the school administration approximately 24 hours in advance of the scheduled trip date. Due to high demand, there may be limited opportunity for rescheduling.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li><b> Accessibility<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Wheelchair Accessible Transportation<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Voyago Transportation Services typically has wheelchair-accessible buses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>All-Terrain Wheelchair<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If an all-terrain wheelchair is required for a student in your class, please connect with your school\u2019s centralized Special Education contact person to make the arrangements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Facility Use<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please see the information below that has been provided by LSS, Special Education<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Typically students who require all terrain wheelchair access to an Outdoor Education centre would be connected with an orthopaedic itinerant teacher through an ortho referral through MDST.\u00a0 We do have some all terrain wheelchairs centrally available that can be accessed through the ortho itinerant team.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the AT wheelchairs vary in size and style &#8211; not all students are able to sit safely in the AT wheelchairs as they are typically less supportive than a student&#8217;s home-based wheelchair.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The school arranging the trip should be connecting with the ortho itinerant well ahead of time to\u2026 [determine if suitable accessibility equipment can be transferred] out to a site for the class trip\u2026 If an ortho itinerant referral has not been made for the student, the school would need to contact their School Liaison Consultant to get next steps.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another consideration would be the equipment \/support \/space required for personal hygiene for use of facilities differs at each site.
