Regardless of our level of interest in birds, we need to make every effort to act in a positive and responsible way to protect each other, the birds and their habitat.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Be considerate of others.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Respect social distancing if you go beyond your home, and stay at least two metres apart.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Be considerate of the birds<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and their needs including space, food, water and shelter.\u00a0 Always assume that a bird is sensitive to your presence and please do not deliberately scare birds.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Be considerate of wildlife habitat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we should not trample or damage wildlife homes.\u00a0 Many birds, like ducks and geese, have already started nesting.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Respect the rights of landowners.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If you go beyond your home, be aware that all parks and recreation areas are public spaces that may close for various reasons, please check with the landowner (Municipality or Conservation Authority) before starting your count.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Try not to disrupt others&#8217; activities.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Many other people enjoy the outdoors, so try not to interfere with their activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Be responsible with your binoculars.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If you are using binoculars, do not look into peoples\u2019 windows.\u00a0 Your exemplary behavior will generate goodwill with birders and non-birders alike.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Going further, please think on how we all can respect and promote birds and their environment.\u00a0 Support the conservation of birds and their habitats. Engage in and promote bird-friendly practices whenever possible, such as keeping cats and other domestic animals indoors. Act to prevent window strikes, maintain safe feeding stations, landscape with native plants, drink shade-grown coffee, and advocate for conservation policies. Be mindful of any negative environmental impacts of your activities, including contributing to climate change.
