WAYSTATIONS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wondering what a Monarch Waystation is?\u00a0 Watch this four minute video of Sean McCammon explaining what a Monarch Waystation is and why we want your school allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Monarch Waystations are an ecological learning space.\u00a0 These gardens are designed to involve students in the conservation of our endangered Monarch butterfly\u00a0and provide space for our students to not only learn, but also take action to protect our local ecology, habitats and biodiversity.\u00a0 By participating, you and your school will be part of an international strategy to save Monarch butterflies.\u00a0 These gardens are low maintenance spaces supported by the Sustainable Working Group of the WRDSB that come at no cost to your school.\u00a0 Every Monarch Waystation is registered with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monarchwatch.org\/waystations\/\">Monarchwatch.org<\/a> an international leader in the effort to monitor and conserve Monarch Butterflies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We want every school in the Waterloo Region District School Board to have a Monarch Waystation, but need your help finding the best location.\u00a0 The best space will meet these criteria:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For CONSERVATION IMPACT, the location should be:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at least 100 SQ\/FT (though they can be larger)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">receive approximately 6+ HOURS of direct sun\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">be well drained<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">feature indigenous species (these can be planted once the site is selected)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">be pesticide free<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be SAFE\u00a0 the site should have:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">clear sight lines\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we will provide the signs and\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">our seed mix is student safe<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be ACCESSIBLE the location should be:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">near or adjacent to a hardened surface<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Not conflict with other property uses (snow
