{"id":100,"date":"2010-12-14T14:57:44","date_gmt":"2010-12-14T19:57:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/outdooredguys.wordpress.com\/?p=100"},"modified":"2010-12-14T14:57:44","modified_gmt":"2010-12-14T19:57:44","slug":"let-it-snow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/schools.wrdsb.ca\/environmental-education\/2010\/12\/14\/let-it-snow\/","title":{"rendered":"Let it snow!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oh, the weather outside is frightful (sing along if you know the words\u2026).\u00a0  I don\u2019t imagine many people enjoyed the drive to work, or wherever they had to go this morning, but the truth is, the weather is frightfully beautiful.\u00a0 I love winter.<\/p>\n<p>Like you, I faced a line of idling cars, truck and buses unable to move this morning in the aftermath of the recent snowfall.  But on arrival at the Blair OEE Centre it was a winter wonderland. My sense is, and the climate scientists suggest, that our winters are becoming warmer overall, and that we are subject to more erratic patterns and catastrophic weather events (witness London and Sarnia, Ontario over the last few days\u2026).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/\/Users\/Daddy\/Library\/Caches\/TemporaryItems\/moz-screenshot.png\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/\/Users\/Daddy\/Library\/Caches\/TemporaryItems\/moz-screenshot-1.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve had Grade 1 classes out at Blair over the past two days with wind chill values in the low -20\u2019s (C).  They\u2019ve come well dressed in layers, with scarves and balaclavas, and pretty much oblivious to the cold.  With a little more snow, January classes will be able to pack down paths with snowshoes, and we\u2019ll see more signs of winter wildlife \u2013 white-tailed deer, fox and coyote, and the sinuous trail of the mink along the stream bank.<\/p>\n<p>Sidewalk shoveling and driving hazards aside, winter can be a sensational season for those willing to dress up against the elements.
