{"id":2644,"date":"2014-06-24T10:54:49","date_gmt":"2014-06-24T14:54:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/outdooredguys.wordpress.com\/?p=2644"},"modified":"2014-06-24T10:54:49","modified_gmt":"2014-06-24T14:54:49","slug":"first-day-of-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/schools.wrdsb.ca\/environmental-education\/2014\/06\/24\/first-day-of-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"First Day of Summer&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday, June 21, was the first day of summer for those of us in the northern hemisphere.\u00a0 I spent the weekend on the Bruce Peninsula, poking around in the fields and along the shoreline for things of interest &#8211; I wasn&#8217;t disappointed.\u00a0 One of the highlights was spotting a fisher sprinting across the road &#8211; this is a large member of the weasel family that prey on small mammals, birds and porcupines!!\u00a0 Small pets left outdoors may also disappear \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p>This great blue heron was feeding in a little wetland beside the road we call Turtle Pond.\u00a0 There were lots of dragonflies &#8211; and mosquitoes &#8211;\u00a0 but no turtles.<\/p>\n<p>Click on any of the photos to see a full-size image in a new window&#8230;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2645\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/outdooredguys.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/06\/dsc_0914.jpeg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2645\" class=\"wp-image-2645 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/outdooredguys.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/06\/dsc_0914.jpeg\" alt=\"DSC_0914\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2645\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Great Blue Heron<\/p><\/div>\n<p>If you find a patch of daisies, look closely, you may find a crab spider!\u00a0 They are well camouflaged, changing colour from white to yellow depending on the host plant.
