Most of our breeding species have migrated south in response to a decline in the insect populations and the reduced day length, but the handful of species that irrupt from the northern regions of Canada have not yet arrived.<\/p>\n<p>In early autumn, possibly in anticipation of the November low, Ron Pittaway compiles the observations and research of ornithologists of Ontario, and beyond.  It is titled &#8220;Winter Finch Forecast&#8221; for the upcoming year, but covers most irruptive species.  The <a href=\"http:\/\/mailman.hwcn.org\/pipermail\/ontbirds\/Week-of-Mon-20100920\/025247.html\">forecast for 2010-2011<\/a> is very informative.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/outdooredguys.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/11\/pine-siskin2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-50\" title=\"Pine Siskin\" src=\"http:\/\/outdooredguys.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/11\/pine-siskin2.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"173\" srcset=\"https:\/\/schools.wrdsb.ca\/environmental-education\/files\/2010\/11\/pine-siskin2.jpg 576w, https:\/\/schools.wrdsb.ca\/environmental-education\/files\/2010\/11\/pine-siskin2-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/schools.wrdsb.ca\/environmental-education\/files\/2010\/11\/pine-siskin2-165x95.jpg 165w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today there were 3 Pine Siskins at the finch feeder at the Heidelberg centre.
