{"id":796,"date":"2011-11-29T17:30:17","date_gmt":"2011-11-29T22:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/outdooredguys.wordpress.com\/?p=796"},"modified":"2011-11-29T17:30:17","modified_gmt":"2011-11-29T22:30:17","slug":"compass-craze","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/schools.wrdsb.ca\/environmental-education\/2011\/11\/29\/compass-craze\/","title":{"rendered":"Compass Craze"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday, November 22nd the students in Gill-Ville from Ryerson P.S. enjoyed a great morning at the Blair Outdoor Ed Centre.\u00a0 In addition to checking out the cool creatures, we spent some time talking about migration, climate change, and endangered species. This was special for us because we are learning about the issues polar bears are facing in northern Canada through our work with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.polarbearsinternational.org\/education\" target=\"_blank\">Polar Bears International<\/a>\u00a0 and the community on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edmodo.com\/publisher\/polarbearsinternationa\" target=\"_blank\">Edmodo <\/a>.\u00a0 You can read our post about it on our <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wrdsb.ca\/gillk\/2011\/11\/19\/polar-bear-problems-webcast-from-the-north\/\" target=\"_blank\">class blog<\/a>\u00a0 Mr. Rasberry talked with us about how some creatures know how to migrate and we learned that butterflies and some birds use the Earth&#8217;s magnetism to fly south to warmer weather.\u00a0 We also learned that a compass uses the Earth&#8217;s magnetism the same way to always point north!\u00a0 Mr. Rasberry taught us how to use a compass and we played a really fun game outside using the compass to find different locations in the field.
