(ESU has separately scheduled PD)<br \/>\nESU4i <strong>classes do not happen<\/strong> on other school breaks including Summer Break, March Break, and stat holidays (ie Good Friday).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What is ESU4i?<\/h2>\n<p>Generally, like the core ESU program, ESU 4i is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/adult-learning-literacy-program\"><strong><em>Get SET<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (Get Skills, Education, Training)\u00a0program funded by Ontario&#8217;s <em>Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.<\/em> Ontario&#8217;s <strong><em>Get SET<\/em><\/strong> programs provide adults with &#8220;a foundation from which to launch and pursue their goals.&#8221;\u00a0 As an <strong><em>Get SET<\/em><\/strong> service provider,\u00a0 ESU &#8220;provides learners with goal path specific programming in order to prepare them for transition to their next steps.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>More specifically, ESU4i serves adults with developmental disabilities. \u00a0ESU4i is a skills development program in communication (reading, writing and speaking) and numeracy (math) at a pre-high school level. The purpose of the ESU4i is to help adults with developmental disabilities prepare to transition to their next steps of further training, employment, volunteering or independence.<\/p>\n<p>ESU is a continuous-intake program.\u00a0 As ESU4i students become transition-ready and move out of ESU4i and on to their next step, new ESU4i students are added.<\/p>\n<h2>What do people learn at ESU4i?<\/h2>\n<p>Many ESU4i learners have the goal of growing in independence.\u00a0 The goal path of independence prepares learners for the literacy and basic skills required in four broad areas<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>managing basic needs<\/li>\n<li>managing personal health<\/li>\n<li>managing personal issues and relationships<\/li>\n<li>and participating in the community.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Learners participate in individually designed learning experiences focusing on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the upgrading of basic literacy and numeracy skills<\/li>\n<li>the practical context in which these skills will be employed<\/li>\n<li>the expressed needs and interests of the adults themselves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Who is eligible for ESU4i?<\/h2>\n<p>The ESU4i is for developmentally disabled adults over 18.
