Electronic Communication Devices

The use of a range of communication technologies continues to increase in our schools. As the technology has expanded at an alarming rate, so have the implications related to safety, privacy and intrusion in our school and communities.

The use of the Internet, social media, and text messaging for bullying and harassment is a serious problem increasing in magnitude. These activities have an impact on the school climate, and affect the safety and learning environment at the school. Communication devices also have the potential to be used for academic dishonesty.

HHSS Cell Phone_Personal Device Policy

Students who continue to be non-compliant with the rule established by the teacher will be referred to the administration.

Technology

Students have access to Chromebooks, desktop computers, mobile technology, cloud storage and printing capabilities. In order to access these devices and services, all students have been given Student Accounts. For Chromebook troubleshooting tips & tricks students can visit Tech @ Home. This link can also be found on our school home page.

All secondary students are assigned a Chromebook for their perusal while attending one of our schools. Students are responsible for bringing a fully-charged Chromebook to school daily (Loaner Chromebooks and chargers are not available).

If the Chromebook gets damaged (we get it, accidents happen) then students can drop the device off in the Main Office for assessment. Please note that there is no loaner stock available while the broken Chromebook is being assessed.

Should students move but still attend a Waterloo Region District School Board they will keep the assigned Chromebook for use at their new WRDSB school.

Should students leave our school board, the Chromebook must be returned to their school upon departure.

Student Accounts

Every student has a Student Account that gives them access to Chromebooks, Google Drive, Google Classroom, desktops and more. You will need a WRDSB username and password to sign into your account. Your VP, Guidance Counselor or teacher will share this information with you.

Password Changes

Staff & students can visit mypassword.wrdsb.ca to change their passwords. If students have forgotten their password then can ask their teacher to reset it for them.

Printing

All students receive $2.50 in Print Credits at the beginning of each school year. Should students require additional Print Credits, they can purchase more by filling out and depositing the Print Credit envelop located in the library.

Print Credits are updated on a daily basis immediately following O Canada.

Accessing files from Home

Students have two options for accessing files from home computers.

  1. Save your work to Google Drive using your WRDSB Google account. You can access your Google Drive from any device with internet access
  2. You can access the files by using “WRDSB MYFILES’. To access “WRDSB MYFILES” students can visit https://myfiles.wrdsb.ca or click on the link on the school homepage under “MYWAY”
