{"id":116,"date":"2019-01-24T17:36:28","date_gmt":"2019-01-24T17:36:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/schools.wrdsb.ca\/pathways\/?page_id=116"},"modified":"2021-10-28T17:43:47","modified_gmt":"2021-10-28T17:43:47","slug":"re-engagement","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/schools.wrdsb.ca\/pathways\/re-engagement\/","title":{"rendered":"WRDSB Re-Engagement"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Overview:<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Re-Engagement is an alternative education program for students ages 18+, with 22 or more credits, who are in-risk of not earning their OSSD.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">The Re-engagement program offers an individualized pathway to graduation for these students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Re-engagement students can choose from a number of different independent self-study courses at the open and college level.\u00a0 Credit Recovery, eLearning, specialized programming, PLAR, Experiential Learning and SWAC \/ Dual Credit are some of the other ways students can earn the credit they need to graduate. Common courses such as ENG 3C\/4C, MEL 3E\/4E, OLC 3O\/4O, and DCO3OC are available to help students meet their OSSD requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Re-engagement teachers support students in their learning through virtual meetings, email, text messaging,\u00a0 and face-to-face meetings at the Alternative and Continuing Education Schools in Cambridge and Waterloo.\u00a0 Additionally, meetings at libraries, coffee shops, home schools etc. are also possible (paused during Covid).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Students in Re-engagement are independent learners.\u00a0 There is no requirement for students to attend a physical classroom.\u00a0 Classrooms are available for students to access support at each of the Alternative and Continuing Education Schools.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Expectations:<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Responsibilities of a re-engagement student include the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 500;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Completing self-study work in a reasonable amount of time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 500;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Communicating with teachers every week through text messages, emails, and\/or face to face meetings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 500;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Asking for help when required.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Timelines:<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">To be an effective program for students, it is reasonable that students complete a single course every 5 weeks.\u00a0 Most courses are 4 modules in length.\u00a0 Timelines are flexible but this program is in high demand and space is limited so regular participation is required.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Opportunities to Earn Credits:<\/b><\/h2>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Self-Study Courses\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<td><a href=\"http:\/\/schools.wrdsb.ca\/pathways\/dual_credit\/swac\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">School Within a College (SWAC)<\/span><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Build-a-credit\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">E-learning<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Experiential Learning (Co-op)<\/span><\/td>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Credit Recovery<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"http:\/\/schools.wrdsb.ca\/pathways\/dual_credit\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Dual Credit<\/span><\/a><\/td>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Overview: Re-Engagement is an alternative education program for students ages 18+, with 22 or more credits, who are in-risk of not earning their OSSD.
