No matter what education you plan to pursue after high school\u2014apprenticeship, college, university or workplace training\u2014a construction major can help you focus on a future career.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>A Specialist High Skills Major in construction offers:\u200b<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">high school courses in grade 11 and 12 tailored to the career you want to pursue<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the chance to work with industry leaders and experience cutting-edge training in transportation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">experience working in the sector you&#8217;re interested in, while you&#8217;re still in high school<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recognition on your high school diploma<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The construction major includes the following five components:\u200b<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A bundle of nine grade 11 and 12 credits that comprise of:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">four construction major credits<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">four other required credits from the Ontario curriculum, in English, mathematics (2), and science or business studies<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two co-operative education credits tied to the sector<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seven sector-recognized certifications and\/or training courses\/programs (five compulsory and a choice of two electives)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experiential learning and career exploration activities within the sector<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reach ahead experiences connected with the student\u2019s postsecondary plans<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Completion of a Sector-Partnered Experience (SPE)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Sector-recognized certification and training\u200b<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of the construction major, you will earn seven certifications, including the following five that are compulsory:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Level A<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">generic instruction about the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">standard first aid<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Working at Heights<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">health and safety &#8211;
