No matter what education you plan to pursue after high school\u2014apprenticeship, college, university or workplace training\u2014a business major can help you focus on a future career.<\/p>\n<h3>A Specialist High Skills Major in business offers:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>high school courses in grade 11 and 12 tailored to the career you want to pursue<\/li>\n<li>the chance to work with industry leaders and experience cutting-edge training in business<\/li>\n<li>experience working in the sector you&#8217;re interested in, while you&#8217;re still in high school<\/li>\n<li>skills and work habits that are required in the business sector, using tools connected with the Ontario Skills Passport<br \/>\nrecognition on your high school diploma<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The business major includes the following components:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>In the business major, you will take nine credits in grade 11 and 12:\n<ul>\n<li>four business major credits<\/li>\n<li>one English credit and two math credits, each with units focused on business<\/li>\n<li>co-operative education credits to gain workplace experience that helps you refine, extend and practice your business knowledge and skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Sector-recognized certifications and\/or training courses\/programs<\/li>\n<li>Experiential learning and career exploration activities within the sector<\/li>\n<li>Reach ahead experiences connected with the student\u2019s postsecondary plans<\/li>\n<li>Completion of a Sector-Partnered Contextualized Experience<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Sector-recognized certification and training<\/h3>\n<p>As part of the business major, you will earn 6 certifications, including the following 4 that are compulsory:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>customer service<\/li>\n<li>standard first aid<\/li>\n<li>CPR, Level A<\/li>\n<li>hazardous materials &#8211; Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Future career paths for business majors<\/h3>\n<p>For business majors, possible careers include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>apprenticeship<\/strong> \u2013 parts technician, special events coordinator, entrepreneur<\/li>\n<li><strong>college<\/strong> \u2013 conference and event planner, legal secretary, entrepreneur<\/li>\n<li><strong>university<\/strong> \u2013 financial and investment analyst, web designer and developer, entrepreneur<\/li>\n<li><strong>entry level workplace<\/strong> \u2013 accounting clerk, banking clerk, real estate agent, entrepreneur<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Get more information<\/h3>\n<p>Call the guidance department at the following schools that offer the program:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bci.wrdsb.ca\">Bluevale Collegiate Institute<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gci.wrdsb.ca\">Galt Collegiate Institute<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/jam.wrdsb.ca\">Sir John A Macdonald Secondary School<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Specialist High Skills Major allows you to focus on a career area that interests you while you earn your high school diploma.
