No matter what education you plan to pursue after high school\u2014apprenticeship, college, university or workplace training\u2014a non-profit major can help you focus on a future career.<\/p>\n<h3>A Specialist High Skills Major in non-profit offers:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>High school courses in Grades 11 and 12 tailored to the career you want to pursue\n<ul>\n<li>Four major credits providing skills and knowledge in the non-profit sector<\/li>\n<li>One English credit and other credits tailored to include units focused on non-profit<\/li>\n<li>Two cooperative education credits to gain workplace experience that enables students to refine, extend and practise sector-specific knowledge and skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Sector-recognized certifications and\/or training courses\/programs (four compulsory and a choice of two electives)<\/li>\n<li>Experiential learning and career exploration activities within the sector<\/li>\n<li>Reach ahead experiences connected with the student&#8217;s postsecondary plans<\/li>\n<li>Completion of a Sector-Partner Experience (SPE)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Sector-Recognized certification and training<\/h3>\n<p>As part of the non-profit major, you will earn six certifications, including the following three that are compulsory:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Standard first aid<\/li>\n<li>CPR, level A<\/li>\n<li>Hazardous materials &#8211; Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Future career paths for non-profit majors<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Apprenticeship<\/strong> &#8211; event planner, policy analyst<\/li>\n<li><strong>College<\/strong> &#8211; fundraising manager, counsellor<\/li>\n<li><strong>University<\/strong> &#8211; international aid worker, NGO program administrator<\/li>\n<li><strong>Entry-level workplace<\/strong> &#8211; fundraiser<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Get more information<\/h3>\n<p>Call the <strong>guidance department<\/strong> at the following school that offers the program:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/eci.wrdsb.ca\">Eastwood Collegiate Institute<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/eds.wrdsb.ca\">Elmira District Secondary School<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/fhc.wrdsb.ca\">Forest Heights Collegiate Institute<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/grc.wrdsb.ca\/\">Grand River Collegiate Institute<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/kci.wrdsb.ca\/\">Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate Institute<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/wci.wrdsb.ca\">Waterloo Collegiate Institute<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Specialist High Skills Major allows you to focus on a career area that interests you while you earn your high school diploma.
