But there are also many women now working as welders, carpenters, machinists, arborists and in other professions that require creativity, critical thinking and the use of advanced technology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Waterloo Region District School Board wants young women in Grades 7-12 and their families to <\/span><b><i>Dream Big<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when thinking about a career in the skilled trades. To help them learn more, it is hosting, in partnership with Build a Dream, a free Virtual Career Discovery Expo on <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Tuesday, November 16 from 6:00pm-8:30pm.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of the Expo, students and their families can learn about the many in-demand careers available and how to connect the different stages of a career plan. The event features:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Pathways Presentations:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Discover opportunities you can access in high school<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Dream Makers:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Hear inspirational women share their career journeys<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Industry Secrets:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Learn what companies look for &amp; how to get an edge<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Breakout rooms, games, prizes!<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">School representatives will also highlight amazing programs such as the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), Co-op, and Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) that give students a road map and head start on entering a career in the trades.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The demand for women tradespeople has been climbing steadily. Women are needed in the skilled trades and are valued the same as men.
