With the end of the 2023-24 school year just around the corner, we wanted to recognize the outstanding secondary students from across the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) for their incredible achievements. From incredible student leaders, and those who have demonstrated academic excellence, to all students who help to give a school its heart, we are so proud of every WRDSB student for all they contributed this school year.

Alternative Education

Xavier Chavarria

Xavier is studious and kind. He has a natural curiosity; he often asks peers “what’s your favourite tree?’ or “where would you like to travel?” and he genuinely wants to hear their answers. Many valuable class discussions have emerged from Xavier’s curiosity. This year Xavier’s been creating an eStore to sell his art pieces. He’ll soon be launching Magic Turtles Art. Rosemount staff congratulate him on his successful completion of the OSSD!

Ruth Gaetan

Ruth came to Alternative Education in the fall of the 2022-23 school year. Over the next year she started to attend more often, participate in school trips and activities, and earned credits through active participation in the program. She built relationships with staff and students, starting working a part-time job, and successfully switched to the SWAC program at Conestoga College. She has been accepted to a firefighting college program and is excited for what comes next.
