While Al ans Sean get their friendly competition for bird species underway, a young Guelph are student is already at species 89 for the calendar year 2012.  He calls it “My 2012 Ontario Big Year”  – a great description can be found on his blog Ontario Birds and Herps.

I came across the blog searching local bird sightings at Guelph/Cambridge/KW Birding   Another source of rare or unusual sightings around the province is Ontario Birding

At Blair today we had a brown-headed cowbird at the feeders.  They are not typically a winter bird, but a few will remain in the area.  Kinda spices up a day of birding to see something unusual.  Today’s grade 4 class from Avenue Road, studying Habitats and Communities, tallied 17 species of birds for a weekly total 19.

Mourning dove at the forest feeders at Blair today.
