As the morning bus was leaving on Friday I happened to see a butterfly nectaring on some of the flowers on the edge of the forest and lawn. My first reaction was a Canadian Tiger Swallowtail, as they have emerged over the last few days, but when I turned to look at it I realized it was a GIANT SWALLOWTAIL. It is a fairly good sighting up here in Waterloo. And today I had my first Ringlet of the spring. Their caterpillars feed on grasses, so it is no surprise that I saw them fluttering over the field with their ‘bouncing’ flight style. Some really neat things are happening outside right now… take the opportunity to get out and enjoy them!
