With all the rain we’ve had recently, Blair Creek was running a little high to do the planned stream study today. So we did an ecology hike, covering much of the Blair property. Noelle, a grade 7 student at Lester B. Pearson P.S. wrote the following piece about a few of the things we encountered. Thanks Noelle!!

Today we went for a walk around the Blair creek and we fed chickadee’s and we went up close the the stream and catches different types of larva! We found a stone fly which is very rare in Blair! We also found water strider, caddisfly larva,Spiral pond snails, scuds and minnows even a speckled trout minnow!

Mr.Rasberry showed us skunk cabbage! Here’s a photo we took

The skunk cabbage is a flower that most animals avoid due to the stinging when they eat it but , Bears will eat it in the spring when it’s small. When you open the skunk cabbage it smells very strong that’s how it got its name skunk cabbage.
