Survival Day! (Because of Hatchet)

Our class from Sheppard Public School read the novel Hatchet about survival. 

We had the best day at Laurel Creek Outdoor Ed Center on February 11th 2013. First Sean took us in the woods to build shelters. Each group was trying to make a shelter the whole group could get in then see how high the temperature would get inside. We were learning about conservation of energy. The winning group’s shelter is in the photo. Sheppard 1-3000

Then we built two fires and cooked hotdogs and marshmallows for our hot dog and hot chocolat lunch. Yum! Sheppard 2-3000 

  • After that we went cross-country skiing for the first time and most of us skied the whole long trail. Sheppard 3-3000

We had a very good time and were proud of ourselves for learning winter survival skills. Thank-you Sean for teaching us and making our day at Laurel Creek great!
