Filling the bird feeders in the morning when I arrive at work is one of the most peaceful and inspiring times of the day for me. It’s quiet, this morning there is a fresh snowfall, and every day is different. The birds seem to know the guy in the red coat is bringing a fresh supply of seed to get them through the day. Often they are queued up in the trees waiting to dig in. I often take a moment just to watch and observe them – and marvel at what wonderful creatures they are.
My feeder-filler is an old mug with our Outdoor Education logo on it. It was designed back in the 80’s, and represents our connection to the natural world through our interaction with birds, in particular the black-capped chickadee. Some grade 1’s will be arriving at Blair shortly hoping to experience the bird in hand shown on the logo, and begin their own relationships with nature.
