Late last fall a number of Grade 1 classes visited the the Blair OEE Centre studying Needs and Characteristics of Living Things, and Daily and Seasonal Changes.  Our focus was on winter birds as living things and how they adapt to the seasons.

I try to introduce the outdooredguys blog to classes each day, and invite them to contribute to it as well.  I’ve recently received some great letters and drawings from the Grade 1’s and thought I’d share just a few of them here.  Thanks to all of the kids for their efforts, and to the teachers for encouraging this follow-up…

letter2letter1IMG_0515Mrs. Jones-Twomey’s class created a fabulous 18 page booklet using Comic Life – I’m sorry it doesn’t fit here on the blog but it sits on my desk at Blair for everyone to see and read.  And finally, I received this email from a teacher just yesterday…

Yesterday, I was helping one of my little ones to finish up her booklet about our trip to Blair  way back on November 30th. I wondered if there was much point, because of it being so long ago. But she remembered a lot about the galls and the chickadees.
Here is what she dictated for the last page:
“When the chickadee was on my hand it felt ticklish.
I felt great. Mr. Rasberry looked so handsome!”

Aren’t Grade 1’s Great?
