Each year, the enrichment classes from A.R. Kaufman come to Laurel Creek for a unique outdoor ed. program. This year we did an international trading simulation in the morning, and wrote poetry in the afternoon. Some of the issues raised in the morning popped up in their thoughts later in the day. Here are some of their writings…

Everywhere We Go

Everywhere we go

In the sun in the snow

Buildings taller than we know

There I wonder where did all the nature go?

Every alley every street

Think about the gaining heat

If we don’t do something soon

The environment will go kaboom!

Cars make things croak and choke

How come everyone makes so much smoke!

“This is good not bad”

People saying that makes me sad.

Ripples

A ripple starts with a splash,

Or sometimes with a ginormous crash!

Whatever makes this happen though,

Whether it be rain or snow,

It will not stop for eternity.

You might think it is little you see,

But what people say and do,

Could cause trouble from me and you.

Bullfrogs can feel it, geese can see it,

Just like people too,

If you throw a stone in a brook,

And when you stay to take a look,

You then will see,

The calmness disturbed in society.

This can be seen in people too,

The crudeness made by me and you.

So take my advice,

And think twice,

Before you throw a stone.

Everyone Sees

Everyone sees a vermin ; I see a living creature.

Everyone sees a weed ; I see a beautiful flower.

Everyone sees an old log ; I see somebody’s home.

Everyone sees a pest ; I see a friend.

I think, ”What is wrong with me?”

No.

What is wrong with Everybody else?

Do You Know Why We’re Cutting You Down?

Do you know why we’re cutting you down?

Because there’s a good use for you in every town

Your trees release oxygen so we can breathe the air

Without you, I don’t how we’d fare

You provide habitats for animals of all shape and size

And for all I know, nature, you’re very wise

That’s why I wonder why we’re tearing you apart

We know that you’re so useful and a work of art

So we shouldn’t be ripping you up and putting roads on top

We should just leave you alone and stop

You’re beautiful just as it is a work of art

So why do we replace you with a track for a go-kart?

This is why I’m so mad at people for not leaving you alone

Because you’re so important and really set the tone

Do you know why we’re cutting you down?

Because there’s a good use for you in every town

Our Precious Earth

Cars everywhere,

Smog fills the city air,

Our trees are chopped down day by day,

Leaving many species in dismay

Polar bears their ice is almost gone,

All because of us doing wrong

Most people don’t really care,

Their too caught up in their affairs

That is why us kids must say,

Why this is wrong in many ways

We need to “Be the change.” like Gandhi said,

Before our earth is grey and dead

Earth is a precious place,

So please make sure it doesn’t go to waste

You won’t regret it I’ll be sure,

So treat earth like a valuable pearl

E’s Amazing poem about hating poems

The sun’s in the sky, there are some birds chirping nearby

And I have to write poetry.

I don’t know why they’re making me try so I just let out a sigh

And write poetry.

I cannot lie, sometimes poetry makes me want to cry,

But I figure I won’t die, so I give it a try

And write poetry.

I watch the birds fly and wonder why poetry is so annoying.

Advice From A Blade of Grass

Be humble

Remember you’re surrounded by others who understand you

Enjoy the view

Accept that some days are better than others

Be patient

You can be gentle and strong

Even if you get trampled, stand tall

Never stop growing

Learn to listen

Simplicity is beauty
