Today with a Gr 7 class from Westheights the 109th species of bird for 2011 flew over us and gave really great views – Bald Eagle! It was a species that most of the students had never seen before (called a ‘lifer’). So a lifer for most and the 8th record for the property since my time here, starting in 1999.

A species that has had its numbers grow since the ban of DDT, is now listed as of “Special Concern” in Ontario, down-listed from “Threatened” only a few years ago.

The raptor migration is slowly coming to an end, but obviously there are still a few moving through : )

Some of today’s class were members of the class that blogged the Painted Turtle laying eggs last spring!
