Problem

Materials:

  • paper
  • pencil

Some children were playing a game.
They collected cards with ladybugs on them. The person with the most ladybugs wins the game.
Here are the cards they had at the end of the game:

Deepa:

4 cards with 3, 3, 1 and 0 ladybugs on them.

Conrad:

4 cards with 2, 1, 3 and 2 ladybugs on them.

Christina:

4 cards with 2, 3, 2 and 3 ladybugs on them.

Jamal:

4 cards with 0, 0, 3 and 1 ladybugs on them.

Nicole

4 cards with 1, 3, 3 and 3 ladybugs on them.

Make a chart, picture, pictograph or a graph to show how many ladybugs each player had.
Who won the game?

Possible Questions:

  • How many ladybugs does each player have?
  • How could you show that on a picture, chart or graph?

Possible Adaptations/Extensions

Some students may want to make a concrete graph by putting the player names on paper and then using small objects to represent the ladybugs.

Ask your child if they can represent it in more than one way.
