Creative Movement and Dance Activities
With the hot weather that we have been having lately, it feels as though we have passed by spring and jumped right into summer. In celebration of summer, our Movement Monday task is from TVO, who has partnered with OPHEA Canada to do this summer themed “Power Up” movement activity.

Want to create your own summer-themed movements?
- Here are a few ideas to get you started. All you need to do is imagine some fun summer activities, then use your creativity to make the movements you would do to perform the activity.
- For example:
- Pretend you are doing the “swim” by circling your arms forward as though you are doing the front crawl, the back crawl, the breaststroke or the butterfly. Try “swimming” for at least one minute without stopping.
- Pretend you are hiking by marching with your knees up high and swinging your arms at your sides. “Hike” at a fast pace for 1 minute.
- Pretend you are playing beach volleyball by doing a “block”. Jump up straight in the air, arms up high, and pretend that you are blocking the ball. Do 10 of these high jumps.
- Pretend you are surfing. Place your arms out to the side and sway from side to side, then jump and face the other direction. “Surf” for at least a minute.
- Pretend you are rock climbing. Reach one arm up as high as you can into the air and bring your same knee up as high as you can, then switch sides (same arm and knee reaching up).
- What other summer activities can you think of? Try to create some movements or actions for those activities. Have fun!
