Goals:

  • Explore persuasive texts
  • Understand the author’s perspective

Some texts we read have a strong point of view. In these texts, the author may want to convince us to do or believe something. We call this type of writing a persuasive text.

We need to think carefully when we read persuasive texts.
We can ask questions as we read, like:

  • What does the author want me to think or believe?
  • Do I agree with the author? Why or why not?
  • Is there a different way to think about this topic?

Read the article “Is it good to be bored sometimes?
(Note: you can use the “Text-to-Speech” link on the page to hear the article read to you)

The article describes two points of view, “being bored isn’t fun” and “being bored leads to creativity”.

Which point of view do you agree with? Why?

Write a paragraph that explains your position. Use ideas from the article and your own experience to explain your point of view.

Share your paragraph with a family member.
