Getting Started
Building a Reading Life
Goals:
- Read every day at home
- Talk to someone about your reading
Find time to read one of the books from your list. Set a goal for your reading today. How much will you read?
After you have read, find a time to talk to someone about your reading. (e.g., at lunchtime, when you are walking with your family, or before bed)
Things you might talk about:
- What happened in the story you were reading today?
- How did this story (or the events in the part you read) make you feel?
- What is something that happened in the story that you think is important? Why?
- What did you learn from your reading today?
- What was the most interesting thing you read about?
- What was the hardest part of the book?
Remember to find time to read every day!
Other Opportunities:
- Talking about TV shows and videos you have viewed helps develop vocabulary and language skills. Use the same questions to share your thinking.
