In Summer 2023, it was announced that GED testing in Canada will end in May 2024.*

But there are excellent alternatives to the GED!

Do you need a high school equivalency for apprenticeship or college?

There is another pathway that many have preferred to the GED.  This is the pathway through taking Academic Upgrading (AU) courses for FREE at a public college like Conestoga College.  If you are not yet ready for the level of upgrading at AU, Conestoga College will refer you to ESU for upgrading to get you ready for AU.
This pathway opens the doors to apprenticeship and college programs WITHOUT a high school diploma and without special high school credits.

Do you need a high school equivalency for work?

There is a plan to replace the GED with a “made in Canada” solution.  The province of Alberta has been working on a test called the Canadian Adult Equivalency Credential (CAEC).  We know that the CAEC has been piloted in Alberta.  Some reports say it may be available in some provinces in Spring 2024.
