Many topics that writers write about have very specific vocabulary or collections of words that are used for that topic.

Play this game with your child:

Say the three words in each of these lists, and see if you child can guess the topic:

  • Scales, gills, fins (fish)
  • Hoop, dribble, jump shot (basketball)
  • Furry, wet nose, barking (dogs)

Encourage your child to think of a topic, and say a list of three vocabulary words that pertain to that topic. Can you guess the topic? Take turns with this game! You can play it anywhere.
