Word Choice
Writers use words in all sorts of ways. Sometimes writers put words together in sentences, and sometimes writers make lists of words to help tell a story or to create a picture in the reader’s mind.
You have been using lots of words as a writer. You probably even have words that you love!
Listen to the poem “All the World” by Liz Garton Scanlon with someone in your family. This poem is written as a book. Listen to how the author uses “collections” of words to help create a story, and to create pictures in the reader’s mind.
After you listen to the poem, look around the room you are in. What “collection” of words could you use to create a picture of the room that you are in?
