Goals:

  • Explore media representations and techniques
  • Celebrate family diversity

June is PRIDE Month, a month when the LGBTQ+ community celebrates their freedom to be themselves.

Recognizing and celebrating our similarities and differences can bind us together in a community! This week, we will explore the characteristics that make us unique, and also those characteristics we share with other people.

For example, consider your family. We all have a family – so we all have this in common. Our families are also unique – with different people, experiences and traditions.

Watch this video to learn more about different kinds of families, and what they have in common:

Over the next few days, you will gather ideas about what makes you unique. We will use these ideas to create visual media that shares our uniqueness with others!

Think about these questions:

  • What is something you would like a new friend to know about your family?
  • What makes your family special to you?

Record your ideas on a piece of paper, or your device, and keep them. We will add to your ideas across this week.

Other Opportunities:

  • You might write a simple note to your family, telling them what you appreciate most about them.
  • Keep on reading books you choose every day!
