Math and music are connected. We often use math to describe and teach music. Numbers are used for timing and the length of notes and patterns are an important part of music.

Today we are going to the Chrome Music Lab to experiment with Patterns in Music.

In the Chrome Music Lab, begin by going to the Rhythm section.

  1. Give your child some time to experiment and try different drums and rhythms to determine how the site works.
  2. Ask your child to try to create different repeating patterns (e.g., bottom, bottom, top) using different drum sets.
  3. Ask them to choose their favourite repeating pattern rhythm. Ask them to represent their pattern on paper. (e.g., colours – red, red, blue or shapes – circle, circle, square, or letters AAB, AAB)
