Let’s Focus

Sometimes it’s all about the simplest things. Whenever we’re struggling, it’s great to go back to basics. So in an effort to keep it super simple, here are some easy ideas that kids love. Most of all, they will appreciate spending a little time together 💙

Can you and your child tell a rhyming story together? Pick a word like “boat” and start with a sentence like, “I saw the boat float.” See if they can then make another rhyme like, “The goat won’t float.” Then ask your child to choose another word and start a new rhyming story.

To be able to rhyme, your child has to pay careful attention to sounds, using their memory and ability to think flexibly. You’re helping your child understand the connections among words, letters, and sounds, an essential step in learning how to read.
