Media

Goals:

  • view a media image and determine important information
  • critically analyse a media image to determine purpose, audience and effectiveness
  • create a media image to communicate important information for an intended audience
  • reading for meaning

The Learning Task

Around the world, many companies and organizations have altered existing logos to communicate an important message for these unique times. Read the following article: McDonald’s and other businesses are making social distancing logos and think:

  • Who is the intended audience of each logo?
  • What is the central message being communicated with the altered logos?
  • Is the message effective? Why or why not.
  • How might companies and organizations benefit from perceived acts of caring during times of crisis and concern? How does that make you feel?
  • Examine each logo: What is similar and different about them? (i.e., what techniques are being employed?)
  • Consider discussing what you explored and learned with your family. If you would like, create your own image using materials you have on hand to communicate a new norm in your home during the time of COVID19.

Daily! Don’t forget to engage with your Writer’s Notebook: Creating a Place for Reflection

Note: please see the information in this lesson for guidance.

Here are some Writer’s Notebook samples that some intermediate students in the WRDSB have shared over the last few days:

“This epidemic has changed my life, as I notice day by day how normal it starts feeling. It’s starting to feel a bit eerie, if I’m honest. Although, the recent rainy weather has hindered me from going outside, riding my bike, going on walks. I still have to be “aware” of people around me, which gives this harsh feeling to everybody, and I just hope I’ll get used to it, but, not too used to it.”

‘DON’T LOSE HOPE!’

If you would like to share your thinking, thoughts and wonderings with other students in the Waterloo Region District School Board, please share your journal entry using this form. Your entry may be chosen to share within our system. This is NOT a requirement and it is your personal choice to share.
