Writing

Goals

  • summarize important information to write a short and snappy newspaper title that conveys information and engages a reader to read further

The Learning Task

What is black and white and re(a)d all over? Why, a newspaper of course!

We have read many newspaper articles and examined their special characteristics in our intermediate literacy prompts this spring.

In this tweet from Goodable, new drone footage shows more than 64,000 green turtles coming ashore in Australia to lay their eggs. The turtles are considered a vulnerable species and there are twice as many green turtles as scientists previously believed.

An effective newspaper headline communicates the essence of the information contained in the article that follows it without overwhelming the reader. It is meant to entice people to continue reading the article and not just the headline.

What newspaper title would you write to communicate the information about the green turtles to have people choose to read the accompanying article.
