Writing

Goals

  • review the elements of the writing process
  • generate, gather and organize ideas inspired by a painting or idea

The Learning Task

Métis are referred to as the people “of the flower” referencing their traditional beadwork and art that often depicts flowers.

Christi Belcourt is an acclaimed, contemporary Métis artist. Watch Christi Belcourt as she paints her latest work “Bird Song” when 13 hours of painting are condensed into 30 seconds: Bird Song.

Watch Bird Song a second time and this time think about how the writing process is similar to the layering required to paint a picture.

Think of an idea or a piece of writing that you would like to take through the writing process to develop a polished piece of writing. We will look at mini-lessons this week and beyond to help you discover ideas to write about, draft and craft your best piece of writing yet!

In the meantime, if you are able to and would like, to download and colour your own version of Christi Belcourt’s Bird Song.

Daily task! Don’t forget to engage with your Writer’s Notebook: Creating a Place for Reflection

Note: please see the information in this lesson for guidance.

We don’t have any Writer’s Notebook entries to share with you today! Please complete your journal entry and share with us; your words might be what someone needs to read.

If you would like to share your thinking, thoughts and wonderings with other students in the Waterloo Region District School Board as above, please share your journal entry using this form. Your entry may be chosen to share within our system. This is NOT a requirement and it is your personal choice to share.

Minli’s mother, tired of their poor life, chides him for filling her head with nonsense. But Minli believes these enchanting stories and embarks on an extraordinary journey to find the Old Man of the Moon and ask him how her family can change their fortune. She encounters an assorted cast of characters and magical creatures along the way, including a dragon who accompanies her on her quest.
