Photo of a person looking in a fridgeInvestigations

Materials:

Approx. 25 pieces of Paper (8.5 X 11), 1 blank piece, the rest can be used
Pencil, crayons or pencil crayons, tape

Instructions:

1. Ask your child to draw a picture on a piece of paper.

“Let’s pretend we have lots of pictures just like this one.
How many do you think would fit on the refrigerator door?”

2. Have your child estimate the number.

3. Have your child find out the actual number of sheets of paper that fit by covering the door with papers. Make sure there aren’t any gaps.
If you don’t have enough paper you could problem-solve another way to do it (make one row across and mark the end with tape then make another row etc.)

  • How close was your estimate?
  • How did you make your estimate?
  • If the paper was smaller would we need the same, more, or less papers
to fill the refrigerator door? Why?
