Investigations
Instructions:
- Make a paper ruler like the one attached or cut out the one attached.
- Have your child use the paper ruler to measure the lengths of different shoes in your home.
- Have your child record the measurements on the attached sheet or on a piece of paper.

Modifications:
If a student is used to using a standard ruler have them measure the shoes in centimetres.
Talking About It:
- How did you make sure your measurement was right? (e.g., putting the edge of the ruler at the beginning of the shoe, making sure the ruler was flat etc.)
- What did you do if the shoe was longer than the ruler?
- How did you know who had the longest shoe?
- How did you know who had the shortest shoe?
- Which shoe is the closest to your shoe?
