Overview:

Re-Engagement is an alternative education program for students ages 18+, with 22 or more credits, who are in-risk of not earning their OSSD.

The Re-engagement program offers an individualized pathway to graduation for these students.

Re-engagement students can choose from a number of different independent self-study courses at the open and college level.  Credit Recovery, eLearning, specialized programming, PLAR, Experiential Learning and SWAC / Dual Credit are some of the other ways students can earn the credit they need to graduate. Common courses such as ENG 3C/4C, MEL 3E/4E, OLC 3O/4O, and DCO3OC are available to help students meet their OSSD requirements.

Re-engagement teachers support students in their learning through virtual meetings, email, text messaging,  and face-to-face meetings at the Alternative and Continuing Education Schools in Cambridge and Waterloo.  Additionally, meetings at libraries, coffee shops, home schools etc. are also possible (paused during Covid).

Students in Re-engagement are independent learners.  There is no requirement for students to attend a physical classroom.  Classrooms are available for students to access support at each of the Alternative and Continuing Education Schools.

Expectations:

Responsibilities of a re-engagement student include the following:

  • Completing self-study work in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Communicating with teachers every week through text messages, emails, and/or face to face meetings.
  • Asking for help when required.

Timelines:

To be an effective program for students, it is reasonable that students complete a single course every 5 weeks.  Most courses are 4 modules in length.  Timelines are flexible but this program is in high demand and space is limited so regular participation is required.
