Listening, Viewing and Responding to Texts

We can get to know characters in books by paying attention to how they feel. Characters in books have feelings just like real people have feelings. We can learn about characters by thinking about how they feel in different situations.

Families:

Encourage your child to brainstorm with you as many words as they can to describe different feelings we sometimes have.

Together, listen to the book What’s My Superpower written by Aviaq Johnston and
illustrated by Tim Mack. As you listen, and look at the pictures, encourage your child to think about how the character feels throughout the book.

After you listen together, talk about how the main character feels. Your child might even notice how her feelings change throughout the book…just like our feelings sometimes change. What do we know about this character now?
