Listening, Viewing and Responding to Texts

Sometimes authors prompt us to think about ourselves. We can learn about ourselves through the thoughts and actions of the characters.

Families:

Talk with your child about what they think makes them who they are. You might ask them, “What makes you, YOU?” Help them to name what makes them special.

Together, listen to the book Red: A Crayon’s Story written by Michael Hall. As you listen, encourage your child to think about whether or not it is possible to be “bad” at being yourself.

After you listen together, talk again about what makes your child unique, and special. If they could choose just one word to describe who they are, what would it be?
