Listening and Responding to Reading

Have you ever wished you could start your own club? If you could, what you want your club to be about? What kinds of things do you love to do or to learn about?

This book is about a boy who starts his own club about his very favourite thing – reptiles! He has some surprise visitors to the first meeting of his club.

Families:

Together with your child take a look at the front cover of the book. Encourage your child to make a prediction about who the surprise guests are. Encourage your child to think about their favourite part of the story, and what makes it their favourite part. Do they like the illustrations? Do they connect with a particular character? Do they love reptiles, too?

Listen together to The Reptile Club by Maureen Fergus and Illustrated by Elina Ellis

Talk with your child about what you both liked about this story.

Ask your child what they would love to spend time learning more about. What is something they are interested in, just as much as Rory is interested in reptiles?

We will listen to one more story tomorrow! Which one has been a favourite in your house this week?
