Reading, Listening, Viewing and Responding to Texts

Paying attention to what makes us all unique helps us to understand others and ourselves.

Families:

Today, we will learn more about our Indigenous neighbours by viewing and thinking about some video clips where Indigenous children share their interests, hobbies, and important traditions and celebrations.

As you watch the videos with your child, encourage them to pay attention to the interests, skills and traditions of their Indigenous peers. It will also be interesting to think about what they have in common with our Indigenous friends.

First, choose two or three videos to view from the website Our Indigenous Friends.

As you watch, encourage your child to, think about these questions:

  • What do you have in common with the friends in the videos you watched?
  • What unique interests or traditions did you find most interesting?
  • If you could meet these friends, what questions would you ask them?

Invite your child to share their thinking with you after you watch.
